More on Henry Darger

I'll write more about the exhibit tomorrow at lunchtime. Until then, for Dargerphiles, I heartily recommend picking up this book.

Yet another example of the Japanese having plenty of money to fund the most absurd and obscure fandoms imaginable (I'm trying to picture a Chibi-Darger illustration, and it's coming to my mind's eye far too easily). Amazon is only offering used copies at preposterous amounts. Perhaps you can convince the nice folks at the Intuit Gallery to ship you one of their $35 copies. A fascinating collection of photos of Darger's room in 1973 and 30 years later before they dismantled it. Japanese and English text.

Strange: I'm sure I've driven past Darger's building dozens of times, but I never actually looked for the place yet. I also discovered he's buried in Des Plaines. Gravehopping road trip!

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the Dargerverse begins spawning all kinds of fun media. Manga, slash, action figures, maybe even an RPG along the lines of Call of Cthulhu. Or how about a World of Warcraft or Second Life type immersive environment. The possibilities are boggling.

I've actually been seriously considering making some embroidered baby quilts with Darger motifs.

Please do. I might buy one for my son's room.

I'll do some initial experiments with a quilt block or two and see how the results come out.

Another theme I was thinking about was Louis Wain cats.
