Chicago
Rahm Emanuel offered Obama Chief of Staff position. Not surprising, but interesting.

Hope he's better at that than he is with an Arby's meat slicer.

Pundit
I like that the first time a majority of voters are able to motivate the lawmakers to not rubber-stamp a Bush package, pundits and editors on both sides are frantically inveighing against (1) the unwashed masses daring to speak out against a bailout, (2) the Republican ideologues of the past eight years acting like, gasp, Republican ideologues, and (3) "partisan" Democrats who, in this election year, don't feel like giving George an easy win or allowing the financiers to receive the sort of no-strings financial support George and kin always decried when it was intended non-club-members.

No mistake, we need a bailout, but, honestly, I like the idea of Wall Street and the banks sweating a little before smacking them with a plan that will draw back every dime they borrow and, in the words of [info]ortho_bob, force them to lunch at Arby's. I just find it a strange day when Bob Herbert and David Brooks are in agreement.
